The European Union has introduced a new digital registration system called the Entry/Exit System, which came into effect on October 12, 2025, and was gradually implemented over a six-month period, with full deployment on April 10, 2026.
This new system registers all non-EU nationals, including Canadian citizens, travelling to countries in the Schengen area for short stays of up to 90 days in any 180 days.
It replaces manual passport stamping at border crossings and records your entries and exits electronically. Biometric data, such as fingerprints and facial images, are also collected. You do not need to take any action before your trip; this process will take place upon arrival.
